AmorSui Upgrades Protective Product Line In Effort To Set ‘New Standard’ In Health Care
A South Philadelphia apparel company launched during the Covid-19 pandemic has unveiled its improved and enhanced line of personal protective equipment (PPE) for health care workers and others.
AmorSui was launched in 2020 by Beau Wangtrakuldee, a scientist and entrepreneur who founded the company after a chemical spill in a lab left her with severe burns. Wangtrakuldee was wearing proper PPE at the time, but the improper sizing and insufficient materials did not protect her.
AmorSui’s mission, she said, is to provide safe, sustainable and properly fitting PPE. The privately owned company, which has three employees, does not disclose revenue or net income figures.
“For years, PPE has done little to actually protect the wearer and even less to protect the planet,” said Wangtrakuldee, who is the company’s CEO. “This has left those in some of the most important industries exposed. We are changing that, ensuring frontline workers are protected while doing the work they love and setting a new standard for PPE.”
AmorSui’s products are created to be reusable and recyclable — and eliminate the waste disposable PPE leaves behind, Wangtrakuldee said. The products are also designed with variations to fit all shapes and sizes. Most PPE, she said, is designed for the body of a European male, even though women make up 80% of the health care workforce.
Among the company’s enhanced products are new isolation gowns featuring a variety of improvements, based on user feedback, that include proprietary textile formulations to ensure durable fluid and odor resistance that meet industry safety standards for up to 100 washes. They also have adjustable neck snaps and side ties to ensure the best fit for the wearer.
